Claire Antell
Claire has worked in tourism since 1986, firstly as a tour operator for Tradewinds, Abercrombie and Kent Travel and Airwaves, including sales, contracting, product management and brochure development. Moving into the area of representation, she was Sales Manager at Americas which is a consortium of Latin American ground handlers. Then followed 17 years as the Executive Secretary of the Latin American Travel Association in the UK with whom she is still closely affiliated. Concurrently she has done consultancy work for the tourist boards of Ecuador and Chile as well as representing Wilderness Explorers for 10 years in the UK market.
Claire was a founding trustee of the LATA Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting worthwhile projects in communities across Latin America.
She has extensive marketing experience having attended and exhibited at World Travel Market, ITB Berlin, TravelMart LatinAmerica, the ATTA Summit, Destinations Show, the British Birdwatching Fair, Caribbean Hotels Association Marketplace and numerous other trade and consumer events over the years around the world.
Claire is now Managing Director of Hemisphere Marketing and spends her time between the UK and Australia. claire@hemisphere.marketing
Tony Thorne
Tony’s career in tourism started as a lodge manager in Guyana in 1991 before establishing Wilderness Explorers in 1994 and over the years expanding the product range to include Suriname, French Guiana and the Caribbean. He was a founding member and the first president of the Tourism Association of Guyana (TAG) and continued to serve on the committee for many years in various roles including vice-president.
He was also a founder and director of Hughes & Thorne Publishing House which published the Guyana Airways in-flight magazine and TAG’s Explore Guyana magazine. In 2003 he was one of the founders of Community and Tourism Services which manages and operates the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway and ATTA Rainforest Lodge.
Wilderness Explorers was the official tour operator partner of the USAID funded project to develop birdwatching tourism to Guyana. tony@hemisphere.marketing
